Sony STRDG920 7.1-Channel Audio/Video Receiver Review

I needed a relatively inexpensive AV receiver with at least 3 HDMI inputs and able to send *all* inputs through the HDMI output to the TV. Onkyo TX-SR606 was the only other receiver I was able to find that met these specs, and since I have an Onkyo, I wanted to stay with that brand. The catch was that the Onkyo would upconvert non-HDMI inputs to 1080i. This Sony upconverts to 1080p. That was pretty much the only thing that swayed me. It is quite minor but I do have a 1080p LCD.

The Sony is very easy to set up. The HDMI handles every pretty seamlessly and my non-HDMI (component) items just needed the video and audio port selection done and that was it.

I like the fact you can rename any of the ports via "GUI Mode" and the speaker set up was a breeze. The microphone worked like a charm (all 1 minute of use.) Performance is pretty good for the price point. I will probably upgrade this in a couple of years when I am able to get back to a true 7.1 setup.

Highly recommend this product. I would not go as far as saying this has better audio than a Denon or Onkyo but it handles itself well..and it allowed me to rip out about 8 cables.

Connections used: three HDMI in, one HDMI out, two component (with one analog and one optical for audio) and one analog audio (soon to be optical)

I bought this machine in a retail store after doing some research and checking different machines. I bought because Sony allow you to swicth to Windows 7 X64 if you want to. In the Sony support website is located all the drivers for Windows 7/8 x64 bits. I like this machine because it is small, fit my backpack,was on budget, it has dvd and usbs which others did not have. It does not weight that much, not light do like a netbook but it wont break you back. The battery really is amazing last almost the 6 hours. It can be on almost the whole day. I was using for hours and did not realize I was not connect to a power source.
The only thing for which I do not give 5 stars is the mouse pad. Here it was where Sony make the saving. The mouse sometimes you do not know where the left and right side begin, kind of annoying at the beginning but after a while you get use to.

It comes with some bottoms that allow you to use hot keys, like the FN key
I love the led keyboard that came with it.

Samsung LN46A630 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color Review

Background:
After doing extensive research across the board, I ended up deciding I would probably like the Samsung A650 series. I went into BB to try and take a look for myself, the Full Gloss screen threw reflections all over the place, and bothered me quite a bit.

Now take the guts of the A650 and put it into the same package, with a semi-matte screen. Now you have a killer combination that looks amazing on the eyes.

Recommendation:
I'm very happy with the TV: the back light is even across the TV, the blacks are crisp, picture quality can't be beat, the 120hz+auto motion result in smooth images and the semi-matte screen doesn't act like a mirror for the room like the A650's do. Finally, the surrounding frame is leaner and not nearly as noticeable as the A650s.

Highly recommended. 5 Stars.

I purchased the 16 channel zeus system for my business. I expected to catch petty theft but a week later someone came through the front door! The night vision is kinda fuzzy but none the less they had him within the hour! Energy Speaker Systems 72-21168 RC-LCR Center Speaker (Black) Review

You could say I am somewhat of an audiophile. By that I dont imply I can rattle off all kinds of buzz words and either impress or put off the reader. However, I am picky and not easily impressed, and I know when I am impressed and when I am not impressed. I have auditioned Polk, Definitive Technology, Infinity, Bose and JBL. I have either personally owned or still own Bang & Olufsen, JBL and Energy speakers.

Which brings me to the RC-LCR speakers. I was late to the HT game, (still mostly a stereo guy) and last year when I finally decided to create a modest HT setup, after reading an immense amount of reviews, I decided to take the plunge and got the Energy Take 5.1 satelite/sub system. Since then I have been thouroughly impressed with Energy speakers with their clarity and depth. The Energy Take 5.1 speakers are paired with a Marantz 5005 receiver (Yes I waited for the longest time to get Marantz. A splurge well worth it).

Anyway, since music is a bigger passion than movies (and since in a weak moment I sold the B&O RL6000 speakers), I started missing my B&O and my search for stereo speakers to keep in my basement and listen to my kind of music without my family complaining started. I knew from the beginning I did not want a set of towers, and not another Sat/Sub. Sat/subs are fine, but I am not sure I appreciate their lack of dispersion and imaging. The next choice was bookshelves (and Energy makes quite a few capble bookshelf spkrs Cb20, RC 10, Veritas 5.1 to name a few), But I wanted something slightly bigger than a typical bookshelf for bigger dynamics. And then I came upon the RC-LCR. After a long and hard indecisiveness, my heart kept coming back to the RC-LCR, and I decided to plunge in (without an audition) to get a couple of these as stereo speakers from Vanns. Based on my location, I got these in 1 day. As soon as I connected these to my vintage Sansui receiver, I knew I made the right decision. These are quite sensitive and even at low volumes incredibly clear sounding. Male and Female voices are live concert like, not to mention that instruments sound very good too. My favorite instrument is by far the violin and a violin concert is amazing to hear. I am waiting to break in the speakers and a day alone to crank these babies to see how they handle louder. Oh did I say the dispersion is amazing too. I can walk around adjoining rooms and still hear the details.

If you are looking to get an advanced bookself (that is how I would classify these) with a near full range speaker capability, you will not be disappointed with these. I am not sure I can be a judge of how this speaker would perform with Rock music or other music with lot of bass. However to the extent I tested these with non-classical and non-jazz, the bass sounds tight and neat. If you are a bass-head, you might need a sub to get to the bottom notes.

If you are a serious music fan and cherish the details and the warmth and lack of coloration, you would be well advised to get a pair of these or 3.
