Excellent kit. Lens takes awesome photos. Best price on the internet for brand new 28-135mm lens, plus you get all the extras included. This lens does not come in original packaging. This was probably taken out of a camera/lens kit and sold separately. There website shows that it is not in box but it did not explain this on the Amazon website. Otherwise I would have given them 5 stars. However, it comes with all Canon warranty paperwork and is packaged very well. Fast shipping, too. I received it 5 days faster than it said I would when I ordered it. Only took about 1 week. I will purchase from them again.

JVC JLC47BC3000 47-Inch 1080p LCD TV Review

I bought this to replace a 42" Sony Grand Wega which had developed the dreaded "blue optical block" issue. Having been ripped off once I wasn't about to give Sony any more money (they knew it was a fault when they sold these sets, but didn't do a recall - and our TV failed just too late to benefit from the resulting class action). So, I spent weeks online and in stores looking for anew set that would be good quality, and not loaded with junk I don't need or want (endless expensive paid streaming sources, Skype stuff, not ready for prime time 3D, etc) that it was a real relief to come across this one! It's great!

When you first set it up, the picture can be disappointing (I guess it depends what you watch and how picky you are), but if you're willing to spend some time experimenting with the various settings, of which there are many, you can soon have it as you want it. This set's picture quality is far better than my Sony (which I liked). There may be better modern sets for picture quality out there, but I didn't see any at BestBuy, Walmart, etc - and I'm willing to bet nothing this size has a picture near this good for the $549 this set cost me (I bought it from Amazon, not from Paul's TV).

The remote is adequate, and easy enough to use - and there's a USB port to connect a flash drive or external hard drive for media transfer/storage (the manual - which isn't very ggod - doesn't say a hard drive will work, but it will, I've done it). Be sure if you want to use a hard drive that it's in a housing with a switch - the TV can't power on an external drive the way a PC can!. This makes it easy to watch .avi, divx etc, or to play music (it also has a connection for mp3 players). Shoving a hard drive you already own into a cheap switched housing will give you a lot of digital media storage, all of which is than readily available through the TV (and your audio system if you like). Its interface for this feature is pretty good, too.

Another very nice feature is that if you use it to play audio, there's a button on the remote that shuts down the screen but leaves the sound on (and the screen comes back up with the touch of any button). This is great for music. The sound is exceptionally good better than any TV I've ever heard (don't be put off by any reviewer saying otherwise).

I hooked mine up to our audio system (two very good speakers, so stereo, not surround sound). When watching movies, by having the TV sound on as well, but at a lower level than the two main speakers, it boosts the sound, making it fuller, so it helps (some TVs only let you have their sound if you're not running through an audio system). We don't want surround sound, but this extra fullness for movies is nice, and doesn't interfere with music (I never went to a concert where I stood or sat in the middle and the band stood all around the edges of the hall!).

And the best feature by miles? No irritating "apps", no pointless 3D, "just the facts, ma'am"!

A possible negative (but one that applies to most current sets) is that if you hook up older equipment with component or composite cables, you probably won't get a picture in the correct aspect ratio, and of high quality. You do need HDMI cables (buy Amazon Basics - they're fine, and cheap - a quarter of the price of many!). I had to buy a new DVD player, as my older (but good) one uses component cables. I got a more than adequate upscaling (and region-free!) Philips player for $40. This was well worth it, as the HD display is far superior to the other inputs. This set'll accept one component connection, and one composite. If that's not enough because, like me, you have old equipment you still want to use, you can easily use a cheap switch box to get around the issue; I did that for VCR, LaserDisc player, and an MVix media player.

One definite negative - there's no support to speak of (there is a warranty, but a measly one year)! JVC's website won't allow you to register this model range online, nor will it tell you where service centers are located. That is really dumb! To get any information, you have to call tech support in the Philippines (they won't answer questions via e-mail). They're polite, but when I had a question about displaying aspect ratios correctly from an older JVC DVD player, and they were of no help - they didn't appear to know what "aspect ratio" meant, and could only suggest things to try that I'd already done, as they were obvious - still, a lot of tech "support" is like that! I solved it myself in the end (this was because of the component connection - the trick was to change the display settings in the player from widescreen TV to 1.33:1 TV - counter-intuitive, but it worked).

Okay first off let me say that I think Samsung does make some of THE best TVs out there. But this isn't one of them. I have been looking for a high quality TV to play games on and for movies for a while now. I got an e-mail from Amazon stating that the new 2010 models from Samsung were now available. I thought great timing since I just got some back-pay owed to me. I wanted a 32" TV since the room this was going into is not very big. I looked around the internet but there were no reviews yet, just the manufacture description. So I took the gamble and bought this one. I received the TV three days ago, and have been bummed since. Okay for the review. First impressions: Beautiful TV, I really like the styling and glossy finish. I actually laughed at how skinny the box was. Set up was not hard at all and they provide cable management to hide the cables from the back. THEN I turned it on. QUICK NOTE* It states that it "absorbs ambient light and virtually eliminates reflections", I say BS! It has the worse amount of reflection on any TV I have ever seen. My computer monitor sits on the opposite wall (about 14' away) and I can easily read text from it. When trying to watch the news, I couldn't see half the screen because of the reflection, it is that bad. If you know anything about HDTV, then you know that the Black Level is the number one factor in picture depth and quality. The black on this set is not black, though you'll probably only achieve that on a plasma, here it is a semi dark grey even after adjustment. Again disappointing since I saw a deeper black on their own 32" 360 series at Walmart that was about $500 cheaper too. Now for the biggest complaint, yes there's more, it is the amount of back-light bleed. The top corners have a grey fan shaped bleed that extend about 5" inwards, in the middle on the left half of the screen there are four large bleed throughs about 7" square each, and a 6" bleed in the middle of the right half of the screen. These bleed throughs or clouding is visible even in bright images. It makes the image wavy like. Also of note for you gamers out there, the Game Mode is ONLY available with HDMI. I have the older XBOX 360 so I use the Component cables which means no Game Mode for me. I also have the 360's PC VGA cable, but again no Game Mode and you with those you cannot adjust sharpness, color, or black level. I did find another review here on Amazon for the 55" model, same series, and it looks to have the same problems. As you can probably already guess, I will be returning this.

***Updated 3/24 -- Okay I decided to change the ranking from 2 stars to 4 stars in that I have since calmed down and knowing that it was just a bad panel. So for anyone interested in this set, please take the review with a grain of salt (I also decided to leave it up, instead of deleting it). Overlooking the bad panel part, here is a few impressions of the set. For one, it is a beautiful set, very dark and glossy. Though just know that the screen is very glossy, black mirror like, but in a light-controlled room it shouldn't be a problem. I didn't get a chance to view any blu-rays on this so I don't know its potential. I did watch a DVD through an XBOX 360 (Kung Fu Panda) using component cables and it looked fantastic, honestly the best I've seen it. Didn't get a chance to go online with XBOX Live, but I didn't see any lag in the games I did play. I also didn't get to calibrate the set (since I was returning it), but out of the box, colors were good, blacks were not ink black still, but fairly dark with good shadow detail. I also found that this IS edge-lit, but all of the literature kept saying LED Backlighting, If I known that I wouldn't have bought it since I personally don't really like edge-lit displays since they typically have uniformity issues and flash-lighting (looks like spot lights from the edges), though not all edge-lit displays have this. Hopefully If you decide to give it a try, you will get a better panel.

Nikon 8x36 Monarch ATB Binocular (Black) Review

Before I bought this great product, I did research online and found an excellent review by Cornell Lab of Ornithology. It puts Nikon Monarch ATB 8x42 in one of the best binoculars. I bought an 8x36, however, because the main use of it is to bring it with me for hiking including backpacking and I prefer a lighter, compacter one. I'm totally happy with my decision.
I believe all the lab review says about the 8x42 version are true with 8x36 as well. The image is very sharp and bright. The focal ring moves very smooth and you'll be amazed at how easily the image gets its focus.
It's so bright that you can see the colors of birds clearly in a cloudy old growth forest (I hiked with this in North Cascades NP, WA) when your bare eyes can't.
This product comes with a nice small bag with a hole to put your belt through, so I can attach it to my backpack.

I also recommend you read the Amazon reviews for the 8x42. The claim about the front lens caps is true with the 8x36. The instruction says you can attach the lens caps to the neckstrap but it's a bit troublesome (you need to do this every time as the neckstrap obviously does not reach the front lens), so I bought a narrow strip and attach the caps to it, then attach the strip to the neckstrap. Anyway, this is a minor thing compared with the overall quality of this product.

Coupled with my Nikon D80 (a digital camera), Nikon always gives you best quality products.

Sharp LC-70LE632U 70-inch Internet Ready LED TV Review

I previously owned a SAMSUNG 55" LED and replaced it with this TV. I was apprehensive about the quality of the picture since you can not tune or adjust them properly while in the store. I am a SAMSUNG fanatic. I get the TV home and set it up in minutes, but concerned about the picture. The mistake made was using the picture settings I normally selected with my Samsung. I used the following settings for the STANDARD picture setting and I AM BLOWN AWAY at the quality and depth of this picture. It actually, I thought I would never say this, has a picture quality better than the Samsung. Those of you that don't agree, that's OK, I am pleased beyond expectation with my new Sharp 70" led. Blu-ray is breathtaking and the VUDU Apps delivered incredible picture quality via the internet.
This set is HUGE so make sure you can sit back at least 10 feet from the screen. Some of the menu items and APPS are confusing, but take the time to experiment with this TV, you will be pleased. I am in TV heaven!
